Southwestern Energy plans to sell its Fayetteville shale assets in Arkansas to focus on developing its oil and natural gas holdings in the Appalachian basin, according to Platts.

Southwestern Energy’s upstream and midstream assets in the Fayetteville shale play could be sold for nearly $2 billion. The company plans to usie the proceeds to supplement its Appalachia development capital, reduce debt and potentially return capital to shareholders.

Platts says the Fayetteville play in recent years “has taken a back seat to the company’s development of its Appalachian basin assets in northeastern Pennsylvania and West Virginia.”
